The Sierra Saunter

up to 7 guests

8 day expedition

August 28th - September 5th

$750 per person

This week-long expedition provides a great sampling of everything the Yosemite High Country has to offer. Remote alpine lakes, views of Yosemite Valley from Clouds Rest, peak ascents, and opportunities to really burn some daylight in ways that speak to you. It’s the Burning Daylight version of the High Sierra Loop. This expedition provides lots of flexibility depending on the goals of the group and is intended for moderate to seasoned backpackers looking to push themselves and really get out “there”.

Trip Itinerary

  • Day 1-Meet at Tuolumne Meadows Campground at 5pm. Go over our itinerary, packing, and group gear, and have our first meal together. Perhaps do some stretching - wink wink.
  • Day 2: Pack up, hike right out of the campground to a little mountain pocket called Nelson Lake. The day will be spent loving our lives (even the altitude challenges!) and focusing on navigation as we meander past lakes, meadows, and a mountain pass.
  • Day 3: Travel off trail down Echo Canyon and traverse below Clouds Rest.
  • Day 4: Rise and shine! A morning ascent of Clouds Rest, admire the half of some dome in the skyline, and then descend to Tenaya Lake. Where we camp depends on how much daylight you want to burn!
  • Day 5: Head down towards Glen Aulin and up into Cold Canyon.
  • Day 6: Up early towards the McCabe Lakes. Stop for tea, maybe an afternoon fish, before sunset over the northern Yosemite High Country.
  • Day 7: Head over a mountain pass and make our way around Roosevelt Lake and beneath Mt. Conness before arriving at Young Lakes.
  • Day 8: Feeling refreshed and perhaps utterly exhausted and definitely jazzed, pack up and hit the trail back to Tuolumne Meadows. Back at the trailhead between 12-2pm. Congratulate yourself for making the most of those daylight hours!
